Eight days before school started, a letter was sent out informing parents of children in Eagle Butte, S.D., of a dress code that was to be put in effect when school started. Many had already bought their children school clothes and couldn't afford to buy different ones, resulting in many being pulled out of classes for "inappropriate" clothing.

Thank you for summarizing this story. I read it in a newspaper this week and found it interesting. I read that all clothes worn in this school must be a bland color, like tan or brown. This is so gang colors are not worn.

ReplyDeleteThis is a real dilemma for the families in Eagle Butte, S.D. It only seems fair that if the junior high school is inflicting a dress code, then the school district should also provide and pay for the expected uniforms the children of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe have to wear.
